The Aledo cross country team swept its varsity competition and almost did the same at the junior varsity level at the Kennedale Invitational on Saturday, Aug. 14. The varsity Bearcats and Ladycats each won their divisions, while the JV girls also won and the JV boys placed second.
"Another great day for Aledo cross country," assistant coach Liza Faith said.
The program also featured four individual champions. Holland Gladchuk won the varsity girls race; Tyler Connelly captured the varsity boys race; Gianna Kenneally took first for the JV girls and Andrew Walsh won the JV boys race.
"There were impressive performances throughout the entire program," Faith said.
The varsity girls placed five runners in the top seven, while the varsity boys placed all seven runners in the top nine. The JV girls claimed three of the top four spots, including a 1-2-3 sweep.
"It was a great day to be a Ladycat and Bearcat!" Faith sai. "Our runners competed hard from top to bottom, and we are extremely proud of the way they represented Aledo."
Aledo is off from competition this week before heading Aug. 27 to Midlothian for the James Smith Invitational.

The Weatherford varsity Lady Roos captured first place at the Cowtown 2-Mile Challenge, while the varsity boys were second in their division Aug. 15 at The Buff in Fort Worth.
Aiden Breaux of the Kangaroos led all Weatherford runners, finishing third in the boys varsity division, while Remington Boone paced the Lady Roos by placing fourth among the varsity girls.
In junior varsity competition, Ian Edwards of Weatherford won the boys division.
Weatherford is running at Burleson Centennial on Aug. 22.

Several Weatherford Christian School runners participated in the Cowtown 2-Mile Challenge on Aug. 15 in Fort Worth and two finished in the top 10 of their respective divisions.
Evelyn Woody placed ninth among varsity girls with a time of 12:32.88. Jack Muelhenkamp was 10th among the varsity boys, clocking a 10:23.79.
