Lions lose 52-6 against Patriots

The Weatherford Christian Academy football team had a tough Week 2, losing to Wylie Prep Academy at home Friday, Sept. 4.

The Patriots won 52-6, with the game ending early in the third quarter due to the mercy-rule.

The highlight for the Lions came with the score 46-0 late in the second quarter. With halftime approaching and the game threatening to end with the Patriots up by more than 45 points, WCS player Alex Schoeppner scored on a short run to cut the lead to 46-6 and avoid the game ending at halftime.

Schoeppner led the team with 27 yards rushing. Jack Muhlenkamp completed 13 passes for 90 yards. Wyatt Jones led the team with four catches for 58 yards.

Coach Colt Jones did not have much to highlight about the game, but looks forward to this week’s game against 2-0 Highlands from Irving, a game he expects his team to be competitive.

The game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at Highlands from Irving.

WCS volleyball loses 3-0

The Weatherford Christian Academy Lady Lions lost to Abilene Christian on Tuesday, Sept 8.

The Lady Panthers won in straight sets 3-0 against a Lady Lions team battling injuries and sickness heading into the match.

The first set did not start well, with Abilene winning 25-5, but WCS played better in the second and third sets, losing 25-16 and 25-13.

Coach Johnathan Foreman said his team struggled with its serve-receive, especially a few players from the Lady Panthers whose floating serve was noted giving his players trouble.

The Lady Lions are next scheduled to play at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, at home against Denton Calvary.
