The Aledo Bearcats tennis team made school history last week when it became the first on-campus sport to win a District 3-6A championship and finish undefeated in district play altogether.
The historic campaign for Aledo continued Monday, Oct. 5, with a 10-0 bi-district playoff win over Keller Timber Creek at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center on the campus of Texas Christian University.
With the win, Aledo advanced to the area round, which was tentatively schedule for Thursday, Oct. 8. The opponent and time were not known as of presstime.
Aledo won all seven matches in doubles play to set the tone early against Timber Creek. The teams of Lila Satterfield and Kjersten Loy along with Bailey Martin and Addison Casson swept their matches in girls doubles, while Kieren Christensen and Addy Avent won theirs in three sets with a final score of 6-2, 4-6, 10-6.
In boys doubles, Ben Kurth and Casen Freeland won their match in three sets with scores of 4-6, 6-4, 10-2. Tai Van and Tucker Thompson also won their three-set match, and Mason Peters and Colt Harp finished off the boys’ sweep with a 6-3, 6-2 win in straight sets. Aledo finished off doubles play with a three-set win in mixed action by Bennett Purcell and Fran Grant.
Aledo had a 7-0 lead into singles play. Satterfield won her singles match in two sets with scores of 6-0. 6-1. Avent and Martin finished off the Bearcats’ bi-district championship by winning the ninth and 10th team points.
