Roos beat Arlington Bowie 28-7 to secure first playoff berth since 2021

The Weatherford Kangaroos made it a happy final home game, beating the Arlington Bowie Volunteers 28-7 Friday, Oct. 30, to lock up a playoff appearance for the first time in five seasons.
Bowie came into the game needing a win to stay in the running for the playoffs.
Weatherford started the game busting big runs on offense until the big plays stopped coming and the Roos missed a 36-yard field goal. Weatherford's defense made up for it as Ace Feriend recovered a fumble at Bowie's 12 yard line. Running back D.J. Quimby later scored on a short run to put the Roos up 7-0.
After that start, Weatherford's offense seemed to not have much luck for the rest of the half while the Volunteers passing offense started to find some success.
Bowie missed a 41-yard field goal to start the second quarter, but later tied the score up as quarterback Mason Nichols found running back Laquentis Jones Jr. on a six-yard touchdown pass. Bowie had converted a fourth down earlier.
The Volunteers nearly took the lead before halftime, but missed a 33-yard field goal to keep the score tied at 7.

The Roos have made a habit most of the season of responding in the third quarter and that was true against Bowie. After the offense had some big runs, Quimby was flipped and had to go off the field briefly. That allowed back-up running back Caylin Pope to score on a six-yard run, his first of the season, to put the Roos back into the lead 14-7.
Weatherford did not relinquish the lead. The Roo defense forced three turnovers on downs, including sniffing out a fake punt in the fourth quarter. Two of those took place deep in Volunteer territory and the offense took advantage.
On one, Weatherford ran a double-fake reverse pass from quarterback Braelyn Jones to a wide open Reed Tidwell for a 32-yard touchdown pass. On another late in the game, Jones found Eli Garrett on a nine-yard touchdown pass.
The cherry on top came on defense as William Crouch picked off a pass in the final seconds so the Roos could kneel the ball out, winning 28-7.
The final score and the happy vibes after the game washed away some of the difficult stretches Weatherford coach Marshall Williams had with his offense as he expressed gratitude for his coaches and players.
"Y'all should be talking to my defensive coordinator Jacob Holley and this staff. I'm just proud of this whole staff," Williams said. "I can't tell you what it means to have people work as hard as they have, these kids work as hard as they have. I'm brand new. I got a vision. Anybody can have a vision, but it’s up to the kids and coaches you retain, the guys you hire. They have bought in with everything I have asked them to do."
Williams is most happy for his players for the accomplishment of making it back to the playoffs.
"I got two or three seniors who hugged me around the neck and said, 'Coach I did not think my senior year was going to be very good,'" Williams said. "To have this senior class make the playoffs and see the tears in their eyes because they are happy, that is enough for me. The job we do, the time we spend away from our families, it makes it all worth it when you can give as much as you can as a coach and you kids who receive it and show a lot of gratitude towards it."
