We have some cell phone lines here at The Community News that were originally on the AT&T network. Several years ago, due to AT&T’s customer service, or rather lack thereof, we switched to Verizon.
During our time with Verizon I didn’t see much improvement on the customer service front, so in a weak moment a few weeks ago in the Weatherford Costco I found myself listening to a sales pitch to switch our lines back to AT&T.
I knew better, but the deal really was that good, so I signed up.
My first red flag was when I had difficulty changing one of our numbers from an older iPhone to the new AT&T iPhone.
I called the “special” Costco AT&T number, which then transferred me to AT&T. I couldn’t get a solution, and the recorded voice told me the wait to speak to a human would be more than an hour.
I sought out one AT&T store which was no help. I tried another, the AT&T store on South Hulen in Fort Worth, where a very nice young lady, Mya Scott, turned out to be a bright and shining star in an otherwise dark morass of failed attempts for help.
Mya got my new phone up and running.
That was about three weeks ago.
Up to now, I have not received anything from AT&T resembling a bill. I do not know how to access my account (and believe me, it’s not for lack of trying).
Anyway, I have been home sick this week, and I attempted to call our editor, Richard, to see what I could do from home.
I received a recorded message from AT&T telling me my account had been suspended for non-payment. I wanted to ask a human there, any human, how it is my service was suspended when I have not even received a bill.
Alas, the only option available in this automated system was to pay the bill. When I tried anything else, it told me I would need to call a toll-free number from a different phone!
So if you want to resolve a billing issue, the only solution is pay the bill. If anyone out there knows how to reach a human being at AT&T, I’m all ears.
