The Weatherford Christian School Lions football team had a tough loss to state-ranked Nazarene Christian Academy on Friday, Oct. 30, at home to end the regular season.
Nazarene won 52-0, ending the game at halftime due to mercy-rule.
Despite the one-sided nature of the game, there were some highlights for WCS.
The offense put up 230 yards in the first half. Quarterback Jack Mulhenkamp completed seven passes for 104 yards, including a 50-yard strike to Cutter Yates. Pierson Julian connected with Wyatt Jones on a 34-yard pass, and Noah Carreon led the team with four catches for 39 yards. On defense, Padean Butler led WCS with three tackles and Jace Kelso recorded a tackle for loss.
The loss makes WCS record at 4-4 for the season and 1-2 in district. Due to a wildcard system in TAPPS, the Lions 45-0 district win against Denton Calvary was enough to get them into the playoffs for the first time since 2022.
“This is our first chance at a playoff game in several years, and these kids have earned it,” WCS coach Colt Jones said. “We’re healthy, we’re hungry, and we’re excited to get to work this week.”
WCS is scheduled to play Lone Star North at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6 at Gainesville High School.
