Weatherford ISD: Board meeting features evening of achievement

DECA students, cheerleaders honored

It was standing room only Monday evening when Weatherford ISD school board president Mike Guest gaveled the meeting to order at 7 p.m. after an executive session.

Five Ikard Elementary School students led the crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance before the board honored 15 WHS Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) students who have advanced to the state competition.

The WHS Cheer team was given a standing ovation for their recent UIL state championship and named February’s Athletes of the Month.

Dr. Jason Dunkelberger, Director of theTransportation, explained his department’s program evaluation reporting that upon his arrival to the district three years ago, there were 23 openings for licensed bus drivers. Today there is one.

This past year, the department retained 68 of 70 drivers, as the two who left moved out of district.

“Everything rises and falls with leadership,” board secretary Adam Feriend noted.

In other business, the board voted to purchase approximately 62.499 acres of real property located at 1501 Upper Denton Road for purchase price of $2,968,702.50, subject to the conditions outlined in the contract, including a 90-day due diligence period.
