The community is invited to the Leadership and Intellectual Excellence Summit at Weatherford College from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 22 in the third-floor community room of the Emerging Technologies and Workforce Building.

Hosted by WC’s Phi Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society, the summit will feature keynote speaker Tamesha L. Logan, executive director of American Mensa, the oldest and largest high-IQ society. The event will bring together students, educators, employers, business leaders and community partners.

The event is designed to celebrate academically accomplished students while creating opportunities for them to connect with individuals and organizations that can influence their educational and professional futures.

A handful of high-achieving students will be recognized during the event nominated by four WC academic and leadership organizations: Phi Theta Kappa, Phi Beta Delta, the Honors College, and the National Society of Leadership and Success.

In addition to Logan’s keynote presentation, attendees will participate in networking opportunities and leadership discussions with representatives from local government, area school districts, higher education institutions, business and industry partners, and community organizations.

“Academic excellence should never be something students feel compelled to minimize. It should be cultivated, recognized, and celebrated,” said Dr. Mark A. Pullam, WC’s business and computer science department chair and organizer of the summit. “At Weatherford College, we want our students to understand that intellectual curiosity, disciplined scholarship, and academic achievement are not simply measures of classroom success; they are foundations for leadership, professional opportunity, and lifelong contribution.”

Pullam, who also oversees WC’s organizational leadership bachelor’s degree, said hosting Logan and partnering with American Mensa reinforces the college’s commitment to recognizing intellectual achievement and encouraging students to pursue excellence both inside and outside the classroom.

“Our goal is not simply to recognize what our students have accomplished, but to help them envision what their accomplishments can make possible,” Pullam said.

Attendance is free, and food and refreshments will be provided. Advance registration is required to assist with event planning and logistics. Registered attendees will receive parking and complimentary shuttle information before the event.
