The Weatherford Wild got their summer season in the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation started on Saturday, June 7 by hosting a meet at Cherry Park in Weatherford. The Wild dominated the meet, capturing a total of 52 gold medals (30 males, 22 females).
The Walsh Wahoos also participated in the meet, winning 13 gold medals (10 females, three males).
Karmyn Charles (Girls 11-12 age group) and Cullen Costello (Boys 13-14) led the Wild, each winning four gold medals. Blair Mezger (Girls 13-14), Frankie Galvan (Boys 8-Under) and Max Gentry (Boys 13-14) won three golds apiece.
For the Wahoos, Sky Austin (Girls 8-Under) led with three gold medals.
“Meet went well. Kids raced hard and had some major improvements from last year,” Wild coach Matt Williams said.
Weatherford, after a week off, is back in the water Saturday, June 21 as they are competing in the Granbury SEALS Meet in Granbury. On June 28 they travel to Mineral Wells, as does Walsh.
Both teams will compete in the TAAF Region IV Meet in Arlington July 13-14 as swimmers attempt to qualify for the TAAF Games of Texas in Bryan/College Station July 31-Aug. 3.
