CROSS COUNTRY

Area runners among state leaders

Several runners from the area are among the leaders in the state in their respective divisions.

Aledo sophomore Holland Gladchuk is ranked fourth in Class 6A with her time of 17 minutes, 58.4 seconds over a 5K distance at the Kennedale Wildcat Run, while Weatherford senior Remi Boone is ninth with her time of 18:20.5 at the Burleson Centennial Spartan Green Monster Invitational.

Also from Aledo, senior Mayden Mitchell is ranked 17th after clocking an 18:51.3, also at Kennedale.

 

WCS competes at Keene

The Weatherford Christian runners competed at the Keene Invitational on Aug. 26. Leading the Lady Lions was Evelyn Woody, who clocked a time of 12:33 over 2 miles for fifth place, while Jack Muhlenkamp posted a 19:57 over 5K for 25th place among the boys.

 

WC to compete in first ever meet

Weatherford College women’s cross country and half marathon will travel to the University of Texas at Tyler on Saturday, Sept. 5 for the first cross country meet in WC history. The sports were added to the athletic agenda this year.

The team includes two Parker County athletes, freshmen Alyson Barco of Springtown and Azucena Neri of Azle.

 

FOOTBALL

WCS opens with win

The Weatherford Christian School Lions began the 2026 football season with a 47-22 victory at Rockwall Providence Academy on Aug. 28. They will play their home opener on Sept. 4 against Wylie Prep at 7:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, the junior high Lions won 45-0.

WCS competes in the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools Class 3A level.

 

GOLF

Bearcat/Ladycat Fundraiser

The 23rd Annual Bearcat/Ladycat Fundraiser golf tournament will be held Oct. 25 at Squaw Creek Golf Course. Lunch is served at 11:30 a.m. and the tournament begins at 1 p.m.

Stars and Strides Tournament

Stars and Strides Stables Therapeutic Riding Center will hold its annual golf tournament on Sept. 17 at Canyon West Golf Course. It is the center’s largest fundraiser of the year, providing critical funding that allows them to care for therapy horses, maintain facilities, purchase specialized equipment, train instructors and offer financial assistance to families.

LACROSSE

Aledo fall sixes are back

The Aledo LaCrosse club is bringing back Fall Sixes starting Oct. 4. This is a fast-paced, condensed version of the game featuring six players per team with a 30-second shot clock and played on a smaller field.

The format is also focused on skill development with more touches and more decision-making opportunities. Each session will include skill work, sixes concepts, and competitive intra-club scrimmages.

The season runs through Nov. 8 with a play day/mini-tournament to wrap up the final day of competition.

RODEO

WC home event set

The Weatherford College rodeo team will host its second annual Lone Star Region Rodeo Oct. 9-10 at the Parker County Sheriff’s Posse Arena. Competition begins at 6:30 each evening.

 

TENNIS

Aledo Pickleball Fundraiser

The Third Annual Aledo High School Tennis Pickleball Fundraiser will be held Nov. 7 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at the AHS courts. Proceeds benefit the AHS tennis program.

Cost to enter the double-elimination doubles tournament is $80 and each entry gets a free T-shirt. Competition will feature multiple brackets.

There will be concessions and raffles as well. To register visit the AHS tennis team’s Facebook page.

In case of rain, the tournament will be moved to Nov. 14.

 

WHS even district record

The Weatherford Kangaroos/Lady Roos tennis team swept Arlington Sam Houston 19-0 recently to improve to 1-1 in District 3-6A. Dylan Poston had the match clincher, while Matthew Trevino and Madeline Jordan were named Players of the Match.

 

VOLLEYBALL

Aledo subvarsity results

Vs. Joshua: Freshmen A won 25-6, 25-22; Freshmen B won 25-13, 25-13; junior varsity won 25-16, 25-9.

 

AMS sweeps Coble

The Aledo Middle School Ladycats began the season with a sweep of Coble Middle School in Arlington on Aug. 27.

Seventh grade: A team won 25-5, 25-12; B won 25-5, 25-4; C won 25-8, 25-5.

Eighth grade: A won 25-12, 25-11; B won 25-15, 25-9; C won 25-14, 25-10.

 

McAnally wins five of six

The McAnally Middle School Ladycats won five of their six matches against Mansfield Howard on Aug. 27.

Seventh grade: A team lost 25-21, 23-25, 20-25; B won 25-16, 25-17; C won 25-16, 25-10.

Eighth grade: A won 25-13, 25-2; B won 25-6, 25-10; C won 25-12, 25-6.

 

WHS record set

Weatherford Lady Roo Hayden Fought recently set a team record for most digs in a single match. She registered 40 during a match in the Granbury Tournament.

 

WC duo named NTJCAC Players of the Week

Weatherford College sophomore Beline Thibaut was named the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Aug. 25. WC's outside hitter from Velaux, France, played in 13 sets and recorded 52 kills in 126 attacks, alongside 46 digs and nine aces.
Teammate Glorybell Puente was selected as NTJCAC Defensive Player of the Week. The sophomore middle blocker from San Cristobal, Dominican Republic, appeared in 13 sets, recording a solo block and 19 block assists along with 32 kills in 56 attacks.
