BASEBALL

Whitemire commits

Aledo Bearcats senior catcher Connor Whitmire has committed to play at Coastal Bend College.

Bearcats, Eagles among state’s top 10 

In this week’s Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association rankings, Aledo is No. 3 in Class 5A and Brock is No. 3 in 4A.

Coyotes alum bouncing back

Former Weatherford College Coyote Tejay Antone continues his comeback. After three Tommy John surgeries, he’s back on the mound for the Cincinnati Reds organization.

Through his first 5.2 innings in Triple-A, he’s maintained a 0.00 ERA without surrendering a single hit or run. And he’s still firing a 95 MPH fastball.

BASKETBALL

WC’s Anisiobi All-American

Weatherford College sophomore guard Neso Anisiobi has been named an NJCAA second team All-American. She is the first Lady Coyote to receive All-American honors since 2018 and the 20th in program history. 

She averaged 17.3 points and 10.7 rebouonds.

GOLF

WC men win conference and region

The Weatherford College Coyotes claimed both the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference championship and the Region V title.

Roos Bruton earns all-region

Junior Carter Bruton of the Weatherford Kangaroos finished ninth overall individually the Region 1-6A Boys Tournament at Tangle Ridge Golf Club in Grand Prairie. He fired a second round 71 (-1) to finish with a two-day total of 145 (+1), ending the tournament just one stroke shy of a playoff for the final individual medalist spot to advance to state.

His top 10 finish also earned him second Team all-region honors.

Lady Roos end season at regionals

The Weatherford High School Lady Roos wrapped up their season at the Region 1-6A Girls Golf Championship at Tangle Ridge Golf Club with a ninth place finish out of 16 teams. Weatherford posted rounds of 346 and 353 for a two-day total of 699.

This year’s regional team included Sailor Chen, Ava Cordary, Kennedy Bailey, Linda Patterson, and Erin Caldwell.

RODEO

A season for the history books.

Weatherford College  rodeo qualified both teams for the College National Finals Rodeo for the first time ever, winning the Lone Star Region women’s team championship and finishing as men’s team reserve (runner-up) champions.

The Coyotes and Lady Coyotes head to Casper, Wyoming, June 14–20, continuing WC’s 22‑year national finals streak.

SOFTBALL

Ladycats end regular season with streak intact

The Aledo Ladycats are once again district champions. Entering the playoffs this week they have won 66 consecutive district games, a streak that will remain intact until at least next season.

WCS reaches playoffs

The Weatherford Christian Lady Lions ended the regular season with a 25-4 win over Mercy Culture. They were playing Ovilla Christian in the first round of the TAPPS Class 3A playoffs at press time.

TENNIS

Tison vs. Acton standouts

Players of the match were Dominik Valencia, Hollyn Harringsma, Allison Estep, and Holland Melven.

WRESTLING

Aledo Cornhole Tournament

The Aledo High School wrestling teams will host a Cornhole Tournament on May 23 from 3-7 p.m. at the Steve Wood Complex. The day will include food and a silent auction.
