Posted

The Weatherford tennis team was able to improve to 2-1 in district with a 12-7 win at Arlington Lamar on Tuesday, Sept. 1.

The Lady Roos won all but one of their matches to help carry the team.

Madeline Jordan and Addy Melven won their Position 2 doubles match before winning both of their singles matches in the second and third positions. The same was true for Ana Spencer in the fourth position, and she paired with Makayla Ford to win the third-position doubles match.

Addy Patterson and Liath Williamson won their first-position doubles match. Amaya Maly won both her mixed doubles match with Brigham Hammer and her fifth-position singles match. Mattingly Bristow won her sixth-position singles match to close out the girls side victories.

The boys side saw Dylan Poston and Konnor Nickerson win their third-position doubles match. Nickerson and Omar Aguilera were the only two who won their singles matches in the fifth and sixth positions. Nickerson’s singles win ended up being the clinching match to secure the victory for the Roos.

Birdville

The Weatherford tennis team hosted Birdville on Friday, Aug. 28, in a non-district dual where the Hawks won handily 16-3.

The Roos’ wins all came in singles matches. Brady Dearman won his first-position match 7-5, and Matthew Trevino, in fourth, and Omar Aguilera, in sixth position, both won their matches 8-4.

On the girls side, seventh-position Liah Williams won her match 6-3, but it did not count toward the team total since usually there is only six singles matches for girls and for boys.

Weatherford is scheduled to play at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, at home against Granbury.
