The Weatherford tennis team had its fall season come to an end Monday, Oct. 5, falling to Southlake Carroll in the bi-district round of the playoffs at Boswell High School in Fort Worth.
The Dragons won every match, with the duel stopping early after Southlake had won 10 matches.
The Roos were overmatched against the 22-1 Southlake Carroll team. The Weatherford highlights included the mixed-doubles team of Mattingly Bristow and Bringham Harmer winning one game in both of their sets; the first-line boys doubles team of Brady Dearman and Will Snider winning one game; and the third-line girls doubles team of Makayla Ford and Anna Spencer winning one game.
The fall team season ends for the Roos, but despite the one-sided loss, there was a lot to be proud of according to Coach Welsey Kidd.
“I’m just overall proud of our seniors,” Kidd said. “We only had two boys that played top six last year, and they were at the back of the ladder, and this year they held their own at the top. Same on the girls side with two varsity returners who had big wins for us at the top of our ladder when we needed it most, as well as multiple JV journeymen who stepped up and some younger kids who played big in big matches. Just proud of our fight this year.”
The team finished the season 8-8 overall and 4-3 in district to earn the final playoff spot in its last regular-season match the week before against Arlington.
