Capping a months-long search and the holding of several special meetings this past week, the Weatherford ISD Board of Trustees named a lone finalist for superintendent, and he isn’t straying too far from the Metroplex.
Dr. Sean Scott will replace outgoing Superintendent Dr. Beau Rees, who is set to retire this summer. Scott is the Deputy Superintendent for Mansfield ISD, but he will soon make his way west and become a Kangaroo, the board voted unanimously Mar. 9.
“Throughout this process, Dr. Scott demonstrated strong leadership experience, a deep understanding of public education, and a clear commitment to students, staff, and the Weatherford community,” said Mike Guest, Weatherford ISD Board President. “We believe he is well positioned to lead Weatherford ISD into the future.”
In Scott’s role at MISD, he supports the superintendent in the daily operations of the district and works closely with student services, human resources, and district operations.
The decision came after months of work by the WISD board that included gathering feedback from staff, parents, and community members, reviewing applications, and conducting multiple interviews, a press release read.
“With more than 25 years of experience in Texas public education, Dr. Scott has served as a teacher, coach, campus principal, and district administrator,” the release continued. “Throughout his career, he has focused on strengthening academic outcomes, supporting educators, and building collaborative relationships with families and communities to support student success.”
Though Scott was not in attendance, the news was met with cheers from audience members.
State law requires a 21-day waiting period before the board can officially vote to hire him as superintendent, which is expected to happen.
