The Weatherford Kangaroos fell just short in their two district games on March 19 and March 24 at Mansfield Legacy and Rockwall.

The Kangaroos lost to the Broncos 3-2 on a walk-off RBI and fell just short against the Yellowjackets 4-2.

Weatherford was 3-0 in district, having won the first game against Legacy by one run in the first matchup. The second matchup proved just as close although there were less runs this time around.

It wasn’t until the third inning when some scoring happened as the Kangaroos got on the board first. With two base runners on, Jett Vindiola grounded out to second base. Legacy went for an inning ending double-play, but Vindiola beat the throw which allowed one run to score.

Weatherford added to its lead in the fifth inning. With one base runner, Cutter Kennedy hit a single. Thanks to an error on the throw, it allowed one run to score as the Kangaroos led 2-0.

The Broncos got on the board in the same inning, hitting two solo home runs to tie the game up at 2-2 heading into the sixth inning.

Weatherford had a good chance of scoring in the seventh inning. The Kangaroos loaded the bases up with two outs, but could not convert. Unfortunately for them, Legacy would convert.

After hitting a one out double, two batters later a Broncos hitter hit a single into the outfield that was deep enough to get the runner home.

Weatherford lost 3-2.

The Kangaroos had out-hit Legacy seven hits to four and drew three walks compared to two. Unfortunately, the timeliness of the hits made all the difference in the one score game.

Landon Carlisle got the start for Weatherford and despite striking out 14 batters, he allowed three runs on three hits.

The Kangaroos had several days to recover before playing the first game of their next series against Rockwall. Unfortunately, Weatherford fell behind in the first inning on a two RBI triple and was playing catch up for the rest of the game.

Later in the third inning, with the bases loaded and only one out, a fielder’s choice out at third base allowed one more run to score to put the Yellowjackets up 3-0.

In the fourth inning the Kangaroo bats strung together several good at-bats. With two runners in scoring position and only one out, Gunnar Wilson and Brayden Lara hit back-to-back RBI singles to cut the lead down to 3-2.

Rockwall got some breathing room in the sixth inning, hitting an RBI triple to make it 4-2 heading into the final inning.

Despite drawing a one out walk, Weatherford could not spark a rally as it lost the game.

Again the Kangaroos had more base runners than their opponent, outhitting the Yellowjackets 7-5 while both drawing five walks. The timeliness of the hits again played a factor in another close loss.

Weatherford was 3-2 in district as it was next scheduled to rematch Rockwall at 5 p.m. on March 27 at home before playing a non-district game at Waxahachie at 1 p.m. on March 28.
