The Kangaroos won 11-0 against the Panthers in five innings before losing to the Eagles 2-1 in eight innings, giving up runs in the final two innings in heartbreaking fashion.
Weatherford run-ruled North Crowley in the first game of the series so the expectation was to do the same thing again.
The Kangaroos got it going early as Jett Vindiola drove in two runs with a double. He was followed by Cutter Kennedy hitting a two-run home run over the left field wall. Several batters later Brooks Kerbow drove in a run on a double. Weatherford led 5-0.
Vindiola drove in another run in the second inning with a sacrifice fly ball to left field to extend the Kangaroos lead to 6-0.
In the third inning, Soto hit and RBI triple and was followed by Zach Zanetti driving him in with a double. Two batters later Luke Couch hit an RBI double as Weatherford’s lead grew to 9-0.
The fourth inning started with Fisher Young hitting a triple to lead off the inning. He later scored on a passed ball. The fifth inning proved to be the final one and Young added to the Kangaroos lead as he hit a sacrifice fly ball.
It made the final score 11-0 after five innings.
Vindiola led the team with three RBIs while Kennedy was second with two RBIs he hit on his home run. The team finished with 12 hits, with 10 being extra base hits, to go with four walks and two hit batters.
On the mound, Landon Carlisle pitched a perfect five innings, not allowing any hits or base runners while striking out nine batters.
After the fun of blowing out a team, Weatherford had a much tougher test in its series against Lake Ridge.
Both the Eagles pitcher and Kangaroos Kennedy were on point on the mound while their defenses were not making huge mistakes through the first four innings as the game remained scoreless.
Weatherford had loaded the bases in the fourth inning, but could not get anyone home. The scoreless tie was broken in the fifth inning.
Brayden Lara drew a leadoff walk. A groundout followed, but it allowed Lara to advance to second base. From there, Logan Chaix came through with a single hit to left field that allowed Lara to score, giving the Kangaroos a 1-0 lead.
Kennedy and the defense just had to hang on, but in the seventh inning a leadoff double and then another double two batters later allowed Lake Ridge to tie the game up at 1-1.
The Eagles nearly won the game when its next batter came in and hit a single, but the throw home was in time to get the runner out at home for an out. Despite another single in the same inning, Weatherford held on getting out three to force extra innings.
The Kangaroo bats could not get anything going, but the defense, after playing error free baseball through seven innings, committed two game costing ones.
The Eagles first batter hit a fly ball to left field. It resulted in an error. As the ball was thrown into the infield, another error on the throw to second base allowed the base runner to then come all the way home for the winning run.
Lake Ridge won 2-1.
Chaix led the team with one RBI while Lara scored the lone run. The team finished with only three hits while drawing five walks and getting hit by two pitches.
On the mound, Kennedy pitched 6.1 innings and allowed one run on four hits while striking out nine and walking two.
It was a crummy way to lose a game, but Weatherford has another chance at the Eagles, next scheduled to play them at 7 p.m. April 10 at home. The Kangaroos have a non-district game scheduled for noon on April 11 at Martin before playing a district game at 7 p.m. on April 14 at Boswell.
