Lady Roos looking to defend district title

The Weatherford Lady Kangaroos are poised for another strong cross country season, which includes defense of their back-to-back District 3-6A championships.

It all starts with senior Remington (Remi) Boone, who has made a habit of advancing to the state meet. Last season she qualified for a second straight year, finishing 18th at the meet in Round Rock.

This came on the heels of a first-place finish at district and an eighth-place showing at the 6A Region I Meet. It was also her second straight top-25 finish at state as she finished 24th as a sophomore.

Boone has reached the postseason every season in her high school career. She qualified for regionals as a freshman.

"Remington Boone has been one of the leaders of our program, and the goal is for her to make another appearance at the UIL State Cross Country Championships. Beyond simply qualifying, we believe she has the ability to compete for a spot on the podium if she continues to develop and stays healthy throughout the season," first-year Weatherford head coach Van Green said.

Boone has plenty of experience looking to join her once again at regionals in 2026. Fellow senior Nayelli Ordonez is likewise a three-time regional qualifier, Junior Ivy Scott has advanced that far in each of her first two varsity seasons; and sophomore Aaliyah Dixon was also on the regional qualifying squad in 2025.

Promising freshmen joining this year's team include Anna Wyatt, who posted a top-10 finish in her first ever varsity meet, finishing eighth at the Cowtown 2-Mile Challenge, and Charlotte Farhat, who was not far behind in 12th.

Sophomore Chloe Burton also joins the varsity this season after finishing fourth in junior varsity district in 2025.

Other freshmen noted by Green with opportunities to contribute to the varsity are Illuciana Craven and Myka Maclin.

Kangaroos

As for the Kangaroos, the lone returning regional qualifier is junior Aiden Breaux, who qualified by finishing eighth at the District 3-6A Meet in 2025. They do return some additional experience in seniors Jack Miller and Saul Salvidar, along with sophomore James Roe.

An up-and-coming freshman joining the Kangaroos this season is Aiden Houghton, who ran to a seventh-place finish at the Cowtown event in his first varsity competition.

Seniors Justin French and Zavier Asucro join the varsity this season after running at JV district in 2025.

Weatherford competes in the same district as another toughie, Aledo, which is moving up to 6A following three straight state meet appearances by both its boys and girls teams. Also in the district is always tough Granbury, along with Arlington programs Arlington High, Martin, Lamar, Bowie and Sam Houston.

"We are a very young team this year and graduated some key pieces from our previous district championship squads," Green said concerning a three-peat for the Lady Roos. "There are several strong programs in our district, so we know nothing will be given to us. Our focus is on improving each week, developing our younger athletes, and seeing where we stand when district arrives.

"I'm excited to see what this group can accomplish. Our athletes have worked hard, embraced the process, and are eager to compete. We're looking forward to the challenges ahead and seeing how much growth we can achieve as a team this season."
