With a standing-room only crowd at the Weatherford ISD District Services Building Monday evening, the WISD Board of Trustees resoundingly said “yes” to naming Dr. Sean Scott as its new superintendent.

Scott will replace outgoing Superintendent Dr. Beau Rees, who is set to retire this summer. Scott is currently the Deputy Superintendent for Mansfield ISD and with supporters from that district in attendance, Scott officially became a Kangaroo.

“I have a great support system and I am excited to continue what Dr. Rees has done,” Scott said, with his wife Courtney and son Jack standing proudly beside him. “I come from a long line of educators and am blessed to continue that legacy.”

Mike Guest, WISD Board President, said that he was “excited” for Scott and his family while also lauding Rees.

“We are a family here in Weatherford and when we say that, we mean it,” he said. “We want you to feel all the love here tonight. You’re filling some awfully big shoes but we know you are that guy who can do it.”

After the introduction, Scott then entertained a receiving line that would’ve made any bride and groom envious. From former board members to community leaders, Scott smiled and spent time listening and engaging with each person.

After the line ended, Scott told The Community News what drew him to Weatherford ISD.

“This is an incredible community that supports this district and to see what all the team has done here is impressive,” he said. “I am excited to see what new ways we can come up with to support academics.”

One of his passions, Scott said, is college and career readiness. He called out WISD’s reputation in that area and cited the Grizzard Regional Institute of Technology (GRIT) as one of the most premiere facilities in the state. He added that education is a “calling” and that supporting children’s hopes and dreams is paramount.

Monday’s meet and greet was sponsored by the Weatherford ISD Education Foundation in conjunction with the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce.

Scott, however, was not the only notable hire of the night. The WISD Board of Trustees also named Scott Curran the athletic director. Though not in attendance, Curran will be at the April board meeting.
