Bearcats take on Arlington Martin in Week 5

Martin presents Homecoming challenge

Following a win in their first district game of the season — a 69-0 rout of Granbury — the Aledo Bearcats head back home for Week 5 to take on the Arlington Martin Warriors.

Kickoff is at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, at Tim Buchanan Stadium at 7 p.m.

The Bearcats have won two straight games after losing their first two of the season.

The Warriors will provide a tough test, taking a 4-0 record into this game, averaging 39.5 points.

Martin is led by four-star running back and Virginia Tech-commit Javian Jones-Priest, who has amassed 486 yards on the ground and 10 touchdowns through four games. Behind him in the backfield is fellow running back Kaden Howell, who’s rushed for 138 yards and a touchdown. Wide receivers Chancellor Tealer and Malik Mason anchor the offense’s passing game, with 243 and 267 yards, respectively. Quarterback Chase Devoll has thrown for 784 yards and two touchdowns.

Aledo aims to stop the run and limit the Warriors’ rushing attack.

“We’ve gotta control the line of scrimmage. We should be able to stop the run game as best that we can,” Aledo head coach Robby Jones said. “Those guys are explosive enough to get good runs on us. We’ve just gotta limit how many good runs they get, play great and sound defense up front and have our linebackers and safeties fill the holes that are created.”

Defensively, the Warriors are led by linebacker Julian Deloera, who has recorded 20 solo tackles and 40 total tackles. Deloera also has eight tackles-for-loss, with defensive linemen Creede Stafford and Braydan Gibbs behind him at five.

Jones highlighted the contributions needed from individual players for this week’s game in order to get the win.

“Max Forman has been coming up big for us all year. We need Max to continue to have a good game on the defensive side of the football and put pressure on the quarterback,” Jones said. “Of course, Tre Williams needs to have another good night throwing the football. Run-game wise, we’ve got to be able to run the football.”

Both teams finished with 60-plus points in their wins last week, as Martin scored 60 in a 43-point win over Weatherford.
