The University Interscholastic League’s Lone Star Cup results were updated on June 11 and after all the points had been tallied up, Aledo finished second in all of 5A.
The Bearcats totaled 106 points, finishing six points behind first place Prosper Walnut Grove and six points ahead of third place Argyle.
Aledo’s biggest point totals came recently, with the baseball team’s state title netting 18 points and the softball team’s state runner-up finish earning 14 points. Other big time scorers were the football and volleyball team’s making it to the state semifinals, earning 12 points each while the boy’s soccer team earned 10 points for making it to the regional final.
Six points were earned by the Aledo team tennis for winning district and making it to the regional quarterfinals in the fall, the Ladycats’ cross country team for earning a bronze medal at the state meet, and the girl’s basketball team for winning district and winning a bi-district playoff game.
Four points were earned by the boy’s cross country team for finishing fourth at the state meet, the marching band for qualifying for the state competition, the boy’s basketball team and girl’s soccer team for both winning district and qualifying for the playoffs, and for the UIL Academic’s success at the district level.
The Aledo cheer team and the robotics team both earned one point each for qualifying for the state competition.
While Aledo could not make it back-to-back after winning last school year’s Lone Star Cup, this year’s teams did score two more points than last year’s 104 total. The school also finished second in 2023-24 and were co-champs in the first ever of competition back in 1997-78.
While this was the fourth and final update, the results won’t become official until July 1.
Superintendent Susan Bohn was proud of the district for doing so well and representing Aledo in so many different fields.
“The 2025-2026 school year was another amazing year of our students taking what it is that they love to do and competing at the highest levels to represent our entire community at the district, regional and state levels. We are so proud of them and our coaches and directors,” Bohn said. “Part of our job is to partner with parents to support children in finding their talents and their passions, and, through exceptional coaching and guidance, achieve to their full potential. To finish in the top two in the Lone Star Cup for the third-straight year is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and ‘All-In’ attitude of our students and staff. We are also incredibly grateful for the unmatched support of our parents and community, because this level of excellence would not happen without them.”
