Weatherford starts off district with win

The Kangaroos won 14-2 against the Eagles, getting it done after five innings.

Weatherford was able to get some final work done before the start of district. Playing in their final tournament last week in the Drew Medford Memorial, the Kangaroos went 3-1 during the two days of games played. The final day was rained out.

Weatherford picked up wins against Keller Central (5-0), Arlington Heights (6-1) and Lamar by run-rule (11-0). The Kangaroos lost a tough game to Midland Lee 6-2, giving up four runs late in the game.

The Kangaroos were able to bounce back in their opening district game right away. Weatherford scored runs in the first four innings and never less than two runs. The Kangaroos even had a monster seven runs scored in the third inning.

In the fourth inning the Eagles were able to avoid a shutout thanks to a couple of fielding errors from Weatherford that made both runs scored unearned. In the end, the Kangaroos won 14-2.

Logan Chaix led the team with four RBIs and three hits, hitting a home run as well. Cutter Kennedy joined him with a home run while driving in three runs on two hit. Ace Feriend, Zach Zanetti and Jett Vindiola each drove in two runs as well. As a team Weatherford had 14 hits and drew six walks.

On the mound, Kennedy got the win pitching four innings, giving up two runs, both unearned, on five hits while striking out two and walking one. Anthony Narez came in to pitch relief for the final inning and gave up no runs or hits, but walked one batter. The defense had two fielding errors.

The Kangaroos are next scheduled to play Crowley at home at 7 p.m. on March 13 for senior night. Weatherford is scheduled to play Mansfield Legacy next week, with the first game at 7 p.m. at home on March 17 and the second on March 19 at Mansfield Legacy.
