Anisiobi earns Player of the Year; Coyotes land eight on All-Conference list
The Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference recently announced its end-of-the-season basketball award winners, with sophomore shooting guard Neso Anisiobi of the Lady Coyotes earning the Player of the Year award and a spot on the All-Conference team. This is her second consecutive year earning a position on the team.
Anisiobi averaged 17.3 points and brought down 10.7 rebounds per game. She likewise collected 51 assists and logged 57 steals throughout the regular season.
The Lady Coyotes also had three athletes named honorable mentions, sophomore Natalia Arseniadou, freshman Albane Beyaert and sophomore Anja Djukic.
The WC men’s basketball team had one athlete named to first team All-Conference, sophomore guard Andre Bennett, and one named to the second team, freshman Josiah Coleman. Bennett scored 10.7 points per game, while Coleman scored 9.1 points per game.
The men’s team also had two athletes named honorable mentions, freshman Bol Dhieu and sophomore Jel Malek.
WC’s Jones named POW
Freshman third baseman Walt Jones earned the first Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference Player of the Week award of the season for the Weatherford College baseball team.
The Ashdown, Arkansas native went 6-for-6 in WC’s doubleheader against Midland College. Jones collected three home runs and two walks and brought in nine runners. He hit .667, scored seven runs and contributed three stolen bases.
Six Roos advance to state
Six members of the Weatherford Kangaroos qualified for state from the Class 5A Regional Meet in Abilene this past weekend. They were led by Talan Tart, who won the 275-pound weight class with a regional record of 1,790 pounds lifted.
Maverick Neal also won first in the 242 division, lifting 1,375.
Also qualifying were:
Ryan Todd, third, 114 class, 730.
Ryan Ekberg, third, 165 class, 1,455.
Preston Clark, fourth, 242 class, 1,560.
Brenton Linehan, fourth, super heavyweight, 1,650.
State is March 27-28, also in Abilene.
Lady Roos sending six for state
The Weatherford Lady Roos qualified six competitors for the Girls State Powerlifting Meet March 20 in Edinburg. Qualifying are Anissa Dearman, Caroline Couch, Selah Galindo, Kylie Baruch, Analia Barcenas (regional champion), and Sophie McCloskey.
Roos win at Hawks Creek
The Weatherford Kangaroos won a tournament at Hawks Creek Golf Club on March 12 in Westworth Village, shooting a team scores of 335. They were led by Mario Muniz and Tristen Mcynarik, each with an 81, while Noah Picasio shot 85.
JV Lady Roos win again
The Weatherford junior varsity Lady Roos capped off a great spring season on March 10 with another team victory at Holiday Hills Golf Club in Mineral Wells. Leading the way for Weatherford was freshman Addison Parks, who earned individual champion honors.
Lady Coyotes second in tourney
The No. 7 nationally ranked Weatherford College women’s golf team finished second out of 12 teams at the Arkansas Collegiate in El Dorado, competing against both university and community college programs. The Coyotes improved by 10 strokes from round one to round two to climb from fourth to second. Emily Gutierrez and Corrina Haros tied for fifth, and Anjali Nair tied for ninth.
Coyotes battle winds for third
Despite wind gusts over 40 mph in the final round, the No. 6 Weatherford College men’s golf team held on to finish third out of 13 teams at the TankLogix & Tall City Exploration Collegiate in Midland. Nicholas Lewis tied for first on the individual leaderboard, and Youssef El Hali finished fifth.
Lady Roos in bidistrict
The Weatherford Lady Roos (16-2-3) were facing Trophy Club Nelson (12-7-3) in a Class 6A bidistrict match at press time. The winner will face Pebble Hills (17-3-2) or Midland (10-9-2) in the second round.
WC knocks off No. 1 team
The No. 1 team in the country came to Weatherford on March 12, and the Lady Coyotes made sure they didn’t leave undefeated.
WC ended Grayson College’s 18-game winning streak with a 2-1 win in game one of a doubleheader at Stuart Field, behind a dominant complete game from Sarah Hanf (one hit, one walk, eight strikeouts). Janae Trojack’s RBI double in the sixth provided the go-ahead runs.
Grayson took game two, 7-1, with WC’s run coming on a Karlie Landrum RBI double in the seventh.
WC’s Warren honored
The American Volleyball Coaches Association has announced Weatherford College’s assistant volleyball coach Naomi Warren as a recipient of the 2026 Thirty Under 30 Award in the collegiate category.
The Thirty Under 30 program recognizes up-and-coming coaches in different sectors of the sport. They are recognized for their hard work and passion for teaching, helping players reach their full potential, and growing the game at the collegiate level.
Warren joined the Weatherford College volleyball team in 2023, after its inaugural season in 2022.
