The WC men’s team found themselves trailing 4-1 after a difficult start against the Cougars. Barton swept the doubles matches, leaving the Coyotes needing to win five out of six singles matches to clinch the overall victory.
The comeback was sparked by dominant performances from several team members, including a nail-biting tiebreaker from Andres Serrano.
After dropping the first set to opponent Raphael Ankrah, Serrano took the second. In the deciding 10-point tiebreaker, Serrano held match point to secure the advantage in the Coyotes’ comeback rally.
Matteo Cardoso sealed the team victory, outlasting Charles Alipoe 6-3, 2-6, 10-8.
The women’s team struggled to find footing in singles play after a competitive double round.
Juliana Jurado and Kshirin Wakalkar delivered a perfect 8-0 shutout over Barton. However, the strength from the Cougars in the singles matchups proved to be the difference.
The men’s and women’s tennis teams will travel to face Jacksonville College on Saturday, March 28.
